The Novikov Telegram (1946) (7 авг 1946 г. – 26 сент 1946 г.)
Описание:
In 1946, soviet ambassador Gregory Novikov sent the Novikov telegram, which brought to light the escalating hostilities and mistrust between the US and USSR in the early stages of the cold war. Novikov told his government that the United States was not just economically strong but also motivated by aspirations for world dominance in reaction to the U.S long telegram, which detailed American fears about Soviet expansionism. This intelligence evaluation confirmed the USSRs belief that America was a serious threat. The telegram's relevance, given that it contained sensitive information about the political and economic state of the United states, and is most important to the concept of espionage. Novikovs statement demonstrated how the two powers were involved in a covert information war that affected their foreign policy. This correspondence demonstrated how each side perceived the other as tensions increased: the USSR felt obliged to expand its territory as a defensive tactic against alleged intrusions on its security, while America seemed fearless of war with its forceful position. This conversation typified a time of distrust and rivalry that would define relations during the cold war.
