The Failed Mountain Revolution (5 фев 1969 г. – 23 фев 1969 г.)

Описание:

The Mountain Revolution was organized and orchestrated by the Nuom anti-monarchist underground who had wanted to establish a Nuom Republic and dismantle the Nuom monarchy. The revolution, which had been planned to take place during the winter, failed due to multiple reasons. The majority of it took place in Xavaxifo with some other revolutionary movements, albeit quite small, were happening in other major cities in Nuomdeim. However, the largest and most well organized uprising was in Xavaxifo with the Eagles of Liberty being the most involved group. Rèk Gatoštõ, a pianist from Icacèpsĩ, was one of the leaders of the Eagles of Liberty and operated from the town, completing missions and attacks in the capital city.

The outbreak of the revolution began on February 5, 1969 with an attack on the King's motorcade heading to the Royal Palace where King Javik III Yonĩb would sign an anti-democratic law into power. The law would limit freedoms on political beliefs and speech as a reaction to the KNA Rebellion in Oipienta. With restrictions being placed on speech and belief, the Eagles of Liberty opened fire on the royal motorcade as it passed through West 4th Street, bringing the cars to a halt. The guards returned fire and then one rebel threw a homemade grenade, blowing up one of the cars. The king had been shot in the arm, prompting the motorcade to rush to the hospital, leaving the rebels in victory.

After the attack, the rebels scattered and went back into hiding, waiting 2 days until their next attack, bombing the Royal Palace. However, the next day, the king gave a speech after being released from the hospital and in the speech, he explained that a crackdown on the group who orchestrated the attack would begin and that the military would get directly involved. The rebels, while the king was giving his speech at the hospital, had planted bombs at the Royal Palace, plotting on blowing it up as a display of weakness for the King. When news reached him, King Javik III rushed over to a safehouse in the middle of Xavaxifo where he remained during the entire revolution.

The palace bombing was what really sparked the revolution and after it, the city began to light up in arms with other groups taking to the streets and attacking government buildings and soldiers. For two weeks, Xavaxifo was in chaos, the government was in hiding, and the rebels were winning. This was true until other cities in Nuomdeim had beaten their rebels, allowing for more soldiers to be transferred to Xavaxifo. By the end of the second week, most food entering into the capital had ceased, most supplies and other items also slowed, putting pressure on both the revolutionary forces and the government. Although the rebels, already freezing from the winter, had lasted long enough to be able to talk to a King's Representative which ended poorly and in the representative losing his life. Despite this, the rebels eventually caved into the demands of the King from lack of resources, pressure from the blockade, and not enough motivation nationwide for the revolution. So, the leader of the Eagles of Liberty, Došívan Jíníṡwĩ, surrendered himself to the King, was arrested, but before, he officially disbanded his group. Him and a few others, not including Rèk Gatoštõ, were arrested and publicly executed by royal officials.

With the end of the revolution, King Javik III Yonĩb enacted numerous anti-democratic laws, pushing Nuomdeim further into a despotic hellscape of a dictatorship. From even more restrictions on speech (primarily no revolutionary talk whatsoever) to banning most types of weapons (except kitchen knives). The damage done during the first attack eventually led to more health problems for Javik III until he retired and stepped down in late 1971, giving his son the throne. Another democratic revolution would occur under his son's reign, leading to his death and a revolutionary victory.
