Beginning in 1600 and ending in 1750, the Baroque Era was a time period of many cultural and artistic developments. Firstly, there were new forms of music introduced, including the concerto, opera, sonata, and oratorio. These new forms of music more often than not used a basso continuo. The basso continuo is a continuous bass line played by a harpsichord which emphasized the dense, polyphonic, and dramatic music style of the Baroque Era.
Some of the most notable composers of this era were J.S. Bach, Antonio Vivaldi, Barbara Strozzi, Claudio Monteverdi, George Frideric Handel, and more.
As for the architecture of the Baroque Era, i was "...a highly opulent building, design, and art style...It's characterized by extremely detailed forms, marble, large-scale decoration, and bright colors"(Thomann, Lauren. “What Is Baroque Architecture?” The Spruce, The Spruce, 22 June 2024).
The Baroque Era is significant because opera and concerto are still prominent today, as well is the detailed and dramatic architecture. This significance is what drew me to this topic.
