Aurangzeb waged a relentless campaign to push Mughal authority deep into Southern India. He broke with Akbar's policy of religious freedom and tolerance to promote harmony and instead demolished many Hindy temples to replace them with mosques, reimposed the Jizya, and encouraged conversion to Islam.
