2) The Entente was founded in 1907 by the countries Russia, England, and France which created a support system in case of German attack and also to make Germany more reluctant to strike. A strong entente like this was a threat to opposing countries like Germany and Austro-Hungary, who had had conflicts with these great powers in the previous years. If this had originally been founded as an alliance instead of an entente, this would have sent a clear sign to begin mobilization to all allies of all sides.

3) However, the entente did not have a view-point like that of an alliance. “For purposes of ultimate emergencies, it may be found to have no substance at all. For the Entente is nothing more than a frame of mind, a view of general policy which is shared by the governments of two countries, but which may be, or become, so vague as to lose all content" - British Foreign Office Official Eyre Crowe. Even milliseconds before war, Britain was skeptical about announcing official alliance systems in order to deter countries like Germany mobilizing. Of course, this was wildly understood by opposing powers who didn’t care to mobilize fully just yet, but rather preferred to keep pushing the arms and naval race as they saw a war emerging on the horizon.
