This alter piece was commissioned by a church of the beneditine order
- Donatello like frame that Mantegna designed it for a carpenter columns and painted columns
- ↳ We know it was designed by him because we see the coincidence of the columns of the
frame with the painted columns in the painting

sort of dialogue between he painted architecture and the architecture of the frame

articulated composition painted in a scale to suggest depth - new way of adapting perspective
– predella panels were dispersed during the war
- ↳ So here we are again looking at this new type of pala that presents a new type of space
inside this sophisticated loggia with a lot of references to the antique
- Very articulate composition with many figures that are clearly painted in scale to suggest a
sort of distance so we can really follow a punto di fuga → the lines that direct our eyes to the
