Judah's revolts against Babylon (1 янв 601 г. до нашей эры – 1 янв 586 г. до нашей эры)
Описание:
Judah's revolts against Babylon (601–586 BCE) were attempts to break free from Neo-Babylonian dominance, culminating in Babylonian victory and the destruction of the kingdom. The fall of Jerusalem and Solomon's Temple marked the onset of the Babylonian captivity, during which many Judeans were forcibly resettled in Mesopotamia.
Background:
Egypt initially held regional power until Babylonia emerged victorious around 606 BCE, establishing dominance over Judah.
First Revolt:
King Jehoiakim halted tribute payments to Babylonia, sparking a war. Babylonia, with allies Moab, Ammon, and Chaldea, besieged Jerusalem in 597 BCE, capturing the city and deporting King Jehoiachin and much of the aristocracy.
Second Revolt:
In 587 BCE, King Zedekiah rebelled against Babylonia, forming an alliance with Egypt. Nebuchadnezzar besieged Jerusalem again, leading to its capture. Zedekiah and his troops fled but were captured. Nebuzaradan burned Solomon's Temple, destroyed Jerusalem's walls, and exiled the remaining Jews to Babylonia. Judah ceased to exist as a kingdom in 586 BCE. Gedalia, appointed as administrator, was murdered in 582 BCE.
