The beef market continued to grow. Cattle ranching was seen as an easy way to make money as, by keeping herds on the open range, costs were low as land was cheap and grass was free.Impacts on Plains Indians:
-Cattle and buffalo competed for grass so buffalo populations began to decline.
-Indians attacked cowboys on their land and the army would be ordered to protect them.
