The Donner Party Migration (1 май 1846 г. – 1 фев 1847 г.)
Описание:
300 migrants set off along the Oregon Trail, led by the Donner brothers.
In July, 80 of the party split off to try a short cut that they had read about in a travel guide which supposedly had plenty of water and grass and was easy to travel through.
The route was disastrous, it was difficult to cross due to dangerous rivers and uneven terrain. There was little grass and water for cattle and many of the cattle died.
The party got stuck in snow storms as the route took so long. They ran out of supplies and the migrants were freezing and starving, many resorting cannibalism to survive.
Rescuers arrived in February 1847.
