Kingdom of Edom (1 янв 1200 г. до нашей эры – 1 янв 553 г. до нашей эры)
Описание:
Edom, an ancient kingdom in Transjordan, lay between Moab, the Arabah, and the Arabian Desert. Most of its former territory is now in southern Jordan and Israel. Edom appears in late Bronze and Iron Age sources.
Archaeological findings suggest Edom thrived from the 13th to the 8th centuries BC, declining in the 6th century BC due to Babylonian conquest. Pushed westward by nomadic tribes, including the Nabataeans, Edomites settled in southern Judah before and after the Babylonian destruction. Under Persian rule, they resided in an area north of Be'er Sheva, known as Idumea. During the Hellenistic period, they were known as Idumeans and forcibly converted to Judaism by the Hasmoneans in the 2nd century BC.
Edom and Idumea refer to contiguous territories occupied by the Edomites/Idumeans in different historical periods: Edom in southern Jordan and Idumea in southern Judah (modern-day Mount Hebron).
