The Iron-Age Era was a historical period characterized by the switch from Bronze to Iron for use in tool, weapon, and other uses. After the dark period following the bronze age collapse, written records dwindled to near nonexistence, but with the latter end of the Iron Age great civilizations began to form once more to bring about new knowledge, art and written works. The most salient of all the civilizations who would begin to rise in this period would be ancient Rome, which was founded on April 21, 753 BC.

Please note that the iron age does not really "end" with the beginnings of the Greco-Roman era. The early Greco-Roman era was still made up of Iron age civilisations, It's just that the Greco Roman dominance of the western world takes such a salient role in the history of the time.
