Nietzsche was an intellect, writer, and philosopher that attacked Enlightenment optimism. He believed that reason, progress, and respectability were outworn social and psychological constructs that suffocated self-realization and excellence. He rejected religion and claimed God was metaphorically murdered by Christians who didn’t truly believe in him. He coined the idea of a master and slave morality that governed society. He painted society as dark and nihilistic, meaning that human life was without meaning, truth or purpose. He denied moral systems, claimed that liberalism, democracy, and socialism were corrupt systems designed to promote the weak at the expense of the strong, and that the only hope for the individual was to accept the meaninglessness of human existence and then make said meaninglessness a source of self-defined personal integrity and hence liberation. Nietzsche’s works attracted growing attention after his death. His works were experimented with, which led to the philosophy of existentialism.
