The Chinese Civil War was a conflict that lasted from 1927 to 1949 between the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Nationalist Party, also known as the Kuomintang (KMT). The conflict emerged from a power struggle between these two groups for control of the country following the fall of the Qing Dynasty in 1911.

In 1945, the United States attempted to help bring both sides to the table to negotiate ways for the country to remain whole. Still, before the summit happened, there was heavy fighting between the government and the Communist troops.

However, tensions between the two sides eventually boiled over, leading to a full-scale civil war in 1946. The CPC gained the peasants' support through land reforms and social programs, while the KMT struggled with corruption and economic instability. In 1949, the CPC was ultimately victorious and established the People's Republic of China under the leadership of Mao Zedong.

The two groups constantly went back and forth through the entire war, with moments of compromise and peace shortly followed by an uprise. As the war went on, the United States funded the Nationalist party, while the Soviets helped the CPC. As the battle raged on, the Chinese Nationalist Party slowly started getting overtaken and ultimately was destroyed, and China became the People's Republic of China.
