Aegon, intent on bringing Dorne under his rule to complete his conquest of Westeros, launched and invasion of Dorne. The Dornish however, used home territory advantage as well as hit and run tactics to avoid the Targaryen Dragons and abandoned their castles to be burned, hiding from the bulk of the Targaryen forces and dragons. Aegon and his sisters declared an initial victory after claiming an abandoned Sunspear, which was the seat of House Martell. The Dornish rebelled after Aegon and his sisters returned to King's Landing, slaughtering the occupying forces. Lord Wyl captured and remoed the sword hand of Orys Baratheon and his men before releasing them from capture.
It became a back and forth war of the Targaryen's burning Dornish castles and the Dornish retaliating by burning other parts of Westeros such as the rainwood on Cape Wrath and the villages and fields surrounding Oldtown.
