David Livingstone's Exploration of Africa (1 янв 1852 г. – 23 окт 1871 г.)

Описание:

By the 1850s, much of the African continent was still completely unknown to Europe, especially the central and southern jungles and rivers. One man however, was about to lead the charge in discovering the final secrets of the continent as he set out travelling up the Zambezi river. The man's name was David Livingston, a Scottish explorer and a Christian missionary who had been attempting to end some of the slave trades still going on in Africa.

In 1852 Livingston began travelling along the Zambezi so as to map out the "highways" of internal Africa. Over the next four years he became the first European to see the immense Victoria Falls, map out most of the Zambezi, and be hailed as the man who "opened up" Africa by crossing the south-central lands establishing trades and religious missions. This would only be Livingston's first expedition however, as over the next nineteen years he would discover a number of lakes, rivers, and regions, significantly adding to the world's collective geographical knowledge.
