The Russian Civil War was a conflict that took place in Russia from 1917 to 1922. It was a multi-party war that involved various factions fighting for control of the Russian government and its territory. The main parties to the conflict were the Bolshevik Red Army, led by Vladimir Lenin, and the anti-communist White Army, which was composed of various factions with diverse political ideologies. The US did provide some support to the anti-communist White Army during the conflict. This support took the form of economic and military aid, as well as the deployment of US troops to Russia as part of the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF). The AEF, which was led by General John J. Pershing, was sent to Russia in 1918 as part of the larger Allied intervention in the Russian Civil War. However, the AEF did not engage in combat operations and was withdrawn from Russia in 1920. Overall, the US played a relatively minor role in the Russian Civil War compared to other foreign powers, such as Britain and France.
