Sojourner Truth (15 июн 1797 г. – 26 ноя 1883 г.)

Описание:

This woman was another important figure in this time period. She was also fighting for women's rights and abolitionism. She was a great public speaker and was known for her powerful speech, “Ain’t I a Woman?”. This speech was on racial equalities and was said at the Ohio Women’s Rights Convention. What was impressing about this speech was that she never prepare for it or written it, she improvised and said what was on her mind from the heart. This topic was close to her heart since she was born into slavery but was later freed by escaping with her daughter in 1826. She also helped recruit black troop for the Union army.
This is significant in history because women were finally taking things in their own hands, they weren't scared to voice their opinions. It was also important in history because she helped recruit black troops so she was then called to D.C., and she helped contribute to the National Freedman's Relief Association. This is extremely significant because it shows how women could be as successful and effective like men.
