Yanek gets moved to Trzebinia Concentration Camp a short time after being at the salt mine. If the work at the salt mine was bad, this was death. Because here, the nazis played games. One was they had prisoners pick up big rocks, and move them to the other side of the camp. Then, when all the rocks were moved, they would move them back. One night, as Yanek was thinking about taking on their captors, a man fights back when he got punished. He then gets shot, and the commander, in his fury, starts picking people at random to be hanged. After that, a few weeks later, Yanek gets to ride his first cattle car journey. They packed as many jews as they could into this car, and gave them no food or water, and no bathroom, and the people could barely breathe. Yanek got lucky, and was next to a vent the first car ride.
