The Srivijaya Empire ruled from 650 to 1377 in most of the Malay Archipelago. It's ruler and founder was Dapunta Hyang Sri Jayanasa, who was the first Maharaja (Emperor) of the Empire. Each state had a complex organization of officials ranging from kāyastha (store workers) to rājaputra (princes). Srivijaya traded various spices, ceramics, silks, fabrics, metals, and exotic animals to other nations around southeast Asia.

As the Srivijaya Empire was a Thassalocracy, it's nations really only consisted of maritime realms and it's influence extended to only coastal regions of southeast Asia. The religion, like a lot of the region it resided in, the main religion of the empire was Buddhism. As a result of foreign piracy and raids that disrupted trade and security in the region, the Srivijaya Empire was defeated after the Cholas from south India took control of the empire and all of the rebellions were quashed.
