According to Greek mythology, the city of Athens was named because of a dispute between Athena and Poseidon. The people decided for Athena as their protector so they named the city after the goddess of wisdom. When Athens was first founded there was kings and rulers, but then came the time fo nobles to take over. They took power of Athens and the people did not have as much power as they later had in time. Athens had their rise during the middle of the 7th century BC. Many people had problems dealing with their obligations which led to people to be converted to slaves during this time. Women during this time had no political rights but they had legal rights and could not be hurt. They often married young and would not be allowed to be outside their homes if they were wives to nobles. If they were women with lower economic status they would work and help around.
