After the defeat of Japan during WWII, Korea was split into socialist North Korea and capitalist South Korea, much like Germany, Berlin, and Vietnam. Similar to those locations, this war was almost a "proxy war" where the communists (USSR and China) and the capitalists (America and Europe) were at it again trying to make sure the other doesn't spread. The UN was split over this conflict as the US and western European forces advocated for South Korean support (to prevent the Domino Effect of Communism in Asia) while the USSR and China advocated for North Korean support. This bloody proxy war devastated the Korean people into a stalemate and eventually, the resolution was that both sides would keep their territory and there would be a demilitarized zone in between as a buffer. A few years ago, they decided to demilitarize both sides of their nukes.

Like the Vietnamese War, the American people did not want US interference in the conflict.
