Essentially, De-Stalinization at the hands of Khrushchev emboldened Czechoslovakian leaders to strike out on their own, intentionally breaking the Brezhnev Doctrine by legalizing many reforms. Brezhnev tried to have talks with the Czechoslovakian leaders, but a resolution was never reached so the USSR decided to invade them. After the invasion, a Moscow-compliant leader replaced the current one and they basically reversed all of the previous leader's liberal reforms returning Czechoslvakia to the the USSR's oppression.
