Women In The American Revolution (1 янв 1775 г. – 1 янв 1783 г.)

Описание:

Some women accompanied their husbands as camp followers to cook, and wash clothes for the soldiers. But most women remained home and raised funds, set clothes, and gathered information that could help the war effort. A small number of African American women also supported the revolutionary war. For example, Phillis Wheatley was a slave, but she was educated and freed in 1773, and she wrote poetry and urged readers to recognize black people as children of God. Some women took active role in the revolution such a Lydia Darragh who eavesdropped on British officers who occupied her house and carried detailed reports to Washington. Margaret Corbin rough on the front lines alongside her husband, loading and firing canons, and Deborah Sampson disguised herself as a male soldier and enlisted.
