The Interstate Commerce Act passed in 1867 regulated railroads, pushing them to be fair to farmers and shippers. The act stemmed from the Supreme Court case of Wabash v. Illinois, which the individual states couldn’t regulate Interstate Commerce. This decision removed any effects the state regulations achieved by the Grangers It set up the Interstate Commerce Commission To investigate and prosecute pools, rebates, and other practices are discriminated against farmers. This commission helped to wear roads more than the farmers however By stabilizing rates and reducing competition.
