The Bay of Pigs invasion started the tension of the Cuban Missile Crisis. The CIA were trying to push Fidel Castro out of power, it failed and the CIA's soldiers surrendered in 24 hours. A US spy plane took clear pictures that the USSR made medium range missiles in Cuba. The people that played a key role in the Cuban Missile crisis were the USSR leader Nikita Khrushchev, Cuban dictator Fidel Castro and US president John F Kennedy. Nikita didn't like that US nuclear bombs were near the USSR so he put USSR missiles near the US. To protect the US Kennedy but a naval blockade around Cuba so that no missiles could get into Cuba and told them to dismantle the missiles and remove the weapons already in Cuba. Both sides feared what would happen if a nuclear war started between the 2 of them. Nikita told what Kennedy told him to do and that was the outcome of the Cuban Missile Crisis.
