This is the skirmish between Japan and China in 1931. After conquering several Chinese territories, Japan’s attempts to take over the North of China(including Manchuria and the puppet state of Manchukuo and was driven out in the Skirmish occurred at the Marco Polo Bridge. Although many considered it to be a minor battle, it was still considered to be the point of escalation of tensions and the beginning of the Sino-Japanese war. This is a significant turning point as it sparked conflicts leading to full-scale war. It also meant that China would not allow Japan to just take their country and will fight back. Examples are following events such as the Xi’an agreement when the nationalists and communists of China joined forces to fend off the Japanese invaders. The Japanese winning the skirmish allows them to take their next step to invade more of China, leading to the battle of Shanghai.
