Location: Atlantic Ocean
Summary: This was a battle between the Allied and German forces for control of the Atlantic Ocean. The Allies wanted the Atlantic in order to keep the flow of men and supplies used during fighting but the Germans wanted to cut this supply off from the Allies. At first, it looked like Hitler might win because of the number of Allied ships that was sunk by the Germans. But then convoys began to be escorted across the Atlantic which were accompanied by advanced destroyers and airplanes. With these advancements, the Allies were able to find and destroy German U-boats faster than the Germans could build them.
Significance: This battle was significant because it was a strategic and big win for the Allies. Because of this victory, the Allies were able to keep the vital flow of supplies and men to help them in battle and new advancements were made in their ships in planes. An example being destroyers equipped with sonar for detecting submarines and airplanes that used radar to spot U-boats.
