He was a franco-flemish composer. Born an illegitimate child (between a priest and unmarried woman), though this did not seem to impact his future schooling. During his education, du Fay was quite popular with the papal authorities and quickly made a place for himself amidst cathedral staff and various institutions. He moved frequently (mainly between Cambrai and Savoy), thus also changing his positions quite frequently.
