The Spanish American war was fought mainly between the US, Cuba, and the Philippines. The US was led by William McKinley during the three month war. There were many causes of the war, one of the main causes being the sinking of the Maine, and the yellow journalism that exaggerated the true story. The Spanish American war resulted in the independence of Cuba and the US annexing Puerto Rico, Guam and the Philippines.
