The reformation, protestant reformation, was
the division of a large group of people from the catholic church, who thought the morals at the heart of the church were unholy and wrong. Examples of these unholy acts were things like indulgences or simony. It began with a man named Martin Luther he was the catalyst for the Protestant Reformation. Luther went to the church with a thesis, containing 95 problems that needed to be addressed. The main issues in the church were corruption and political conflicts. Luther believed that people were being led astray from God and goodness and that the church was leading people to hell through wrongful teaching. Luther wanted to begin with a discussion within the church about the true path to salvation. He wrote a bible, he preached on faith alone, that the bible is the only source of truth, not the papacy. Salvation only comes through faith in Christ. The pope demanded that Luther recall 41 of his thesis and was excommunicated. He gained millions of followers against the Roman Catholics as his ideas spread quickly.
