The Black Power Movement was first promoted by the likes of Malcolm X and Stokely Carmichael. This movement was based on fighting against racially-charged violence towards blacks, through any means. Stokely's belief was that blacks needed to feel a sense of racial pride and self respect before any meaningful gains could be made in the Civil Rights Movement.
