The religious leader of the Ottoman empire called for a holy war against France, Russia, and Britain. They did this to help them recover against losses in other military campaigns. In early October, they officially joined the war. The Ottoman army managed to beat Britain in a few key battles in 1915. However, Britain managed to bounce back and defeat the Ottoman empire. This allowed Britian to become the dominant force in the Middle East.
