Left wing political groups, anarchist and socialist, joined together to form the Popular Front and win the elections. The Popular Front, won 263 seats out of the 473 in the Cortes thus forming the new government. Now that they won the elections, some of the socialist and anarchist groups begin to seize land, call for a revolution. The Popular Front released all left-wing political prisoners, introduced agrarian reforms that penalized the landed aristocracy, transferred right-wing military leaders like Francisco Franco to posts outside of Spain, outlawed the Falange Española and granted Catalonia political and administrative autonomy. This immediately upset the Right wing Government and the conservatives.
