Alonzo Herndon was born into slavery and just like Booker and most African Americans, wanted a better life for them selves. So Herndon learned how to be a barber and opened his own shop in Jonesboro, GA. He stayed there for five years and decided to move to Atlanta, GA because he felt business would increase.
