Freedom Summer (21 июн 1964 г. – 2 ноя 1964 г.)

Описание:

1. The Freedom Summer was a nonviolent effort by Mississippi blacks to integrate into the political society and gain voting rights, and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) recruited white college students to help black people in the South register to vote, make a new political party, and learn about history.
2. This happened in the Summer of 1964, and it ended with the "Freedom Elections" in November that year.
3. The SNCC and CORE were involved in setting it up, and a notable leader was Robert Moses, who suggested the idea to both the SNCC and CORE in the fall of 1963, and ended up leading the organization of it.
4. It happened in Mississippi.
5. It was caused by segregation and discrimination in the South that prevented many black Americans from voting or being elected to hold office.
6. It resulted in the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and then the Voting Rights Act of 1965 due to the atrocities witnessed by the American public relating to segregation and discrimination in the South through media coverage of the protests.
