1. Why did you choose this police department? I chose the LAPD because it’s one of the most famous and controversial police departments in America. It has a long and complex history that reflects many issues related to policing in the U.S. 2. What did you find most interesting about this police department? I found it interesting how the LAPD was the first to create a SWAT team and how many times the department has had to go through reforms and public apologies. 3. What did you find most challenging about this police department? The most challenging part was narrowing the timeline down to just 18 events. There are so many major scandals, protests, and changes that all felt important to include. 4. What event stood out to you the most? Why? The Rodney King beating stood out the most because of how it was one of the first times police violence was caught on tape and shown nationwide. It changed how people saw the police forever. 5. Has learning about this police department and its significant events changed your perception on policing? Why / Why not? Yes, it made me realize that while there are a lot of issues in policing, there are also moments of growth and change. But it also shows how long reform takes and how important public accountability is.
