Corrine is jealous of Nettie because the olinkas think she is Samuel's other wife.
The Olinkas are very old school. They believe women shouldn't go to school.
A road is being built near Cassava fields.Olivia has a friend, Tashi, who she teaches because her dad doesn't believe girls should go to school. Nettie and Olivia don't agree with the Olinka's Knowledge.Nettie learns about the village's believe on marriage and infidelity, how a wife can be killed for infidelity.

Tashi and more girls are going to school.Corrine thinks that Nettie and Samuel are the parents of Adam and Olivia.

Celie and Nettie's father was a farmer that had a store and was killed by the white merchants.
