MARCELO MALPIGHI (1620-1694) - Considered to be the father of the microscopy - He made obrervations of tissues - Malpighi made many drawings of his observations
ANTON VAN LEEUWENHOEK (1632-1723) - He manufactured some microscopes and then used them to observe microorganisms
ROBERT HOOKE (1635-1703) - He studied a sheet of cork with a simple microscope - Hooke named the cells - cell = small room (latin)
ROBERT BROWN (1773-1857) - He observed the plant cells - He discovered the nucleus in plant cells - Later scientists that the structure is in all eukaryotic cells
MATTHIAS SCHLEIDEN (1804-1881) -Came to the conclusion that all plants are made of cells
THEODOR SCHWANN (1810-1882) - A year later concluded that all animals are also made of cells like Schleiden concluded for plants.
RUDOLF VIRCHOW (1821-1902) - Studied the physiology of cells - Concluded that every cell carried out the three vital functions - His work led to the completion of the other two principles of the cell theory
- Based on the conclusions of both scientist the first principle of the cell theory was developed
SANTIAGO RAMÓN Y CAJAL (1852-1934) - He proved that the cell theory also applied to nervous tissue - Cajal studied tissue samples obtained from embryos and infants - He observed that the tissues are made up of cells - He was awarded the Nobel Prize
MICROSCOPES - Optical microscopes were greatly improved - Microscopes continue to evolve today. - Now we are able to observe tiny details inside cells and organelles
