This video was a short, but very informative piece of work. It provided me with a detailed summary of juggling history that included poi and hooping as well. It helped me learn more about hooping history and poi history. It also explains in detail about how juggling split off into many different art forms. It shows how juggling was used for entertainment, defense and battles. There is more information about circus and martial arts in this one as well. It explains how much juggling has changed over the past 4000 years as well as large events that caused it to change.

This source gave me a better look at how jugglers started to juggle balls and beanbags. I learned about where juggling balls originated from and what items were used for juggling before juggling balls were created. It also displays many images and examples of all the items used for juggling. This helped me understand what everything would look like, as well as how it would be used. Some of the objects aren’t used for toss juggling and are instead used for balancing or a game. I also found out about a juggler who juggled cannon balls for his act.

This source was extremely useful in providing me with an entire summary timeline of most events up until 1947. It helped me in finding major events that happened for jugglers. It was useful because through it I was able to research about each event individually. Using information from the site, I researched about the Beni Hasan tomb and how juggling was used to show power as well as a warrior’s skill. This source provoked my interest in battles with juggling. From that I learned that there are combat juggling competitions, which were played on ESPN for a short period of time.

While this source is older, it was still very useful in defining and representing juggling history. It explains how finding history on juggling is difficult because it’s either used as a word for doing many things at once rather than being about literal juggling. It also says that many references end up being fictional or instructional items. He also says that during this time that the sources he found were too obscure to be found by computer searches. Even so, I found the information he provided was very informative and helpful. He also discusses how images that are depicted are often incorrect or physically impossible to perform. He says that people who are not jugglers have trouble counting the number of objects in the air if it’s more than five, which is why they are often drawn incorrectly.

This source provided me with background information on a lot of jugglers and gave more specific info on event during each time period. It told about a law that was put in place to make sure jugglers pay compensations for injured members of the audience from dropping juggling balls. I also learned more about Xiang Yiliao, who juggled nine balls in front of an enemy and scared them off. It also taught me more about Vaudeville and why juggling was added and stayed with it until its fall. Another fact I learned was that a German Juggler pretended to be Indian because Asian jugglers were in high demand during the 1800s.
