January 30th, 1933 - Adolf Hitler is appointed Chancellor of Germany, a nation with a Jewish population of 566,000.
February 28, 1933, - Emergency powers granted to Hitler as a result of the Reichstag Fire.
March 24, 1933 - German parliament granted Hitler dictorial powers due to the passing of the Enabling Act.
August 2, 1934 - Hitler proclaims himself Führer und Reichskanzler (Leader and Reich Chancellor). Armed forces must now swear allegiance to him.
September 15, 1935 - "Nuremberg Laws": first anti-Jewish racial laws enacted; Jews no longer considered German citizens; Jews could not marry Aryans; nor could they fly the German flag.
November 8, 1932 - Franklin D. Roosevelt is elected the 32nd President of the United States
November 15, 1935 - Germany defines a "Jew" to anyone with three Jewish grandparents; someone with two Jewish grandparents who identifies as a Jew.
July 12, 1936 - Sachsenhausen concentration camp opens.
October 25, 1936 - Hitler and Mussolini form Rome-Berlin Axis.
July 15, 1937 - Buchenwald concentration camp opens.
November 9-10, 1938 - Kristallnacht (Night of Broken Glass): anti-Jewish pogrom in Germany, Austria, and the Sudetenland; 200 synagogues destroyed; 7,500 Jewish shops looted; 30,000 male Jews sent to concentration camps (Dachau, Buchenwald, Sachsenhausen).
March 15, 1939 - Germans occupy Czechoslovakia.
September 1, 1939 - Beginning of World War II: Germany invades Poland. In the following weeks, 16.336 civilians are murdered by the Nazis in 714 localities. At least 5,000 victims were Jews.
April 9, 1940 - Germans occupy Denmark and southern Norway.
September 27, 1940 - Rome-Berlin-Tokyo Axis is formed.
July - August, 1941 - Dozens thousands of Russian and Jews are murdered by the Einzatzgruppen.
December 7, 1941 - Japanese attack Pearl Harbor.
Hitler commits suicide, liberation of Ravensbruck.
