Dec 17, 1960, First British performance as The Beatles, at the Casbah Coffee Club, Liverpool.
Jan 1, 1962 - They audition for Decca records but are turned down. Record shop owner Brian Epstein becomes their manager.
May 9 - The band signs their first recording contract.
August 18, 1962 - Ringo joins the band.
October 5, 1962 - The group releases their first single, Love Me Do. Epstein reportedly buys 10,000 copies to ensure it a place in the top 20.
February 11, 1963 - Please Please Me, their first album is recorded in a 10-hour session and released on March 22.
November 22, 1963 - The release of their second album, With the Beatles.
April 4, 1964 - Beatles records occupy the first five spots on the American singles chart.
August 18, 1964 - The band begins their second tour of America. Mass Beatlemania ensues.
December 4, 1964 Beatles for Sale released.
October 16, 1965 - The Beatles receive the MBE awards from Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace.
December 3, 1965 - Rubber Soul issued.
August 5, 1966 - Revolver released. The band subsequently admitted to being "under the influence" while many of the songs were recorded.
August 26, 1966 - The Beatles play their last concert at Candlestick Park in San Francisco.
June 1, 1967 - After more than 700 hours in the studio recording it, the group release Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
June 25, 1967 - The band performs All You Need Is Love on the live television show Our World. It is the first time a program has ever been broadcast live around the world; about 400m people watch the show.
November 22, 1968 - The Beatles (White Album) - the band's only double album.
January 17, 1969 - The soundtrack to the film Yellow Submarine.
September 26, 1969 - Abbey Road.
November 15, 1970 - Paul files a lawsuit to officially break up the Beatles.
Jan 22, 1968 - Apple Corp, a record company founded by the Beatles, opens offices in London.
