Dutch establish settlements in Suriname.
First permanent European settlement, established by British at Paramaribo by Lord Francis Willoughby.
British bring their first plantation over to start harvesting sugar cane and coffee.
Slavery abolished from plantations.
Suriname given full autonomy from the Netherlands.
Ban of political parties was lifted.
97% vote to approve new civilian constitution.
African slaves begin guerrilla war for new constitutional order.
