1829: Graham's Diet, introduced by Sylvester Graham. Graham crackers, bread, and flour were invented due to his diet. The diet consisted of fresh fruits, whole wheat and high fibers food, which he believe would help give humanity pure thoughts.
1917: Calorie counting, introduced by Lulu Hunt Peters. Made a book on calorie counting, called Diet and Health: With Key to the Calories. First weightloss book to become best seller. She was the first person to popularize that calorie counting was a method of weight lost.
1950: Grapefruit diet, introduced by Hollywood actors, leading to the name of the, "Hollywood Diet." Diet is based on the fact that grapefruit burns the fat-enzymes. The diet helps but can cause health problems if used too frequently.
1961: Calories don't count diet, introduced by Herman Taller. Published the book "Calories Don't Count". Discovered the diet by advocating low-carb diets with polyunsaturated fats like sunflower oil.
1976: Sleeping beauty diet, introduced by Jacqueline Susan, in her novel Valley of the Dolls. The diet said that if you slept for a while, you would wake up thinner and sleep off the wait since you would be sedated and not thinking about hunger.
