1517: Protestant Reformation: Martin Luther and John Calvin. Pilgrims want religious freedom so they leave for America.
1492: Columbus arrives in America when he had been searching for India
1607: Jamestown is the first enduring English settlement
1612: Tobacco Production in Jamestown begins. Jamestown begins to prosper
1637: Anne Hutchinson expelled from Massachusetts, settles in Connecticut
1609: Starving Time, extremely difficult time for colonists in Jamestown
1636: Roger Williams expelled from Massachusetts, settles in Rhode Island
1676: Bacon's Rebellion occurred as a result of large wealth disparity and no representation in goernment
1619: First shipment of slaves, initally arrived as indentured servants
1620: Mayflower Compact shows early forms of democracy, ideas that will continue into the colonies
1620: Pilgrims leave Europe in search of religious freedom and create colony at Plymouh
1630: Puritans leave Europe in search of religious freedom and create a colony in Massachusetts
1680: Pueblo revolt, resulted because of culture clash and one of earliest and fewest Native Americans victories against Europeans
