John Knox, a Scottish preacher put Calvins ideas to work when he returned to Scotland. Each community church was now governed by a group of laymen called elders or presbyters. Followers of John Know were now called Presbyterians. All of this was significant because in the 1560s the Protestant nobles led by John Knox mad Calvinism Scotland's official religion. Calvin was considered very influential because now a days many Protestant churches trace their roots back to Calvin.
