Описание:
William Cullen Bryant took inspiration from nature. He used vivid imagery and descriptions to show the importance of nature and what it can do for us. In his work "The Prairies" he talks about the life the Indians had before on the Prairies and the effect that the European settlers had on their land and their cultures. He stated "Till twilight blushed and lovers walked, and wooed / In a forgotten language, and old tunes / From instruments of an unremembered form..."(Bryant, 492). This brings attention to the lost cultures and traditions that have been long forgotten. He speaks about the beauty of the moments that even though forgotten held great significance. This piece contributed to the formation of the American identity because he was thinking of people outside of his culture and the oppression that they encountered. Giving a voice to the lesser or forgotten was not a common theme and it was admirable that Bryant thought about it, and cared enough to share those thoughts with the public. This piece was a great way to increase empathy and acceptance towards Native Americans.
