The American Psychiatric Association (APA) published their first edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders in 1952, in which homosexuality is classified as a sociopathic personality disturbance. Soon after publication, many critics in the social science and medical arise, claiming there is no empirical data to support this classification.
