The United States has vetoed a United Nations Security Council resolution for a ceasefire in Israel’s war on Gaza, accusing the other 14 council members of cynically rejecting attempts at reaching a compromise.

Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem demands a complete ceasefire and “protection of Lebanon’s sovereignty” in any deal with Israel ahead of US envoy Amos Hochstein’s planned meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
