2 окт 1889 г. - The first meeting of the Pan American Conference is held in Washington. This had been authorized by law under the Cleveland Administration in 1888. Secretary of State James G. Blaine served as President of the Conference, but in many respects, it did not meet his objectives. A goal of the conference was for the United States to replace Great Britain as the dominant economic force in Latin America. The Conference adjourned on 04/19/1890
