While looking at screens of a fellow technicians DNA, Jeffreys had a "eureka moment" in which he realized the correlation between that technicians DNA and that of his family members'. In half an hour, he created techniques to profile people based on their DNA patterns. This type of testing grew very popular in the 80's, both in England and the United States.
